- CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY -

I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union and its Member States.

[The Candidate Countries Albania*, Bosnia and Herzegovina*, the Republic of North Macedonia*, Moldova, Montenegro*, Serbia* and Ukraine, the EFTA country Iceland and Norway, member of the European Economic Area, align themselves with this statement.]

Chairperson, Vice-Chairpersons,

Distinguished Delegates,

  1. The EU and its Member States thank the Office for the Programme and Budget for 2024-2025 adopted at the Governing Body in March and the draft resolution through which the Governing Body recommended to the International Labour Conference to approve the budget.
  2. The Programme and Budget is critical as it aims to provide the means for developing appropriate human-centred solutions to address the emerging risks and opportunities faced by workers and enterprises in the world of work.
  3. The European Union and its Member States are acutely aware of the importance of adopting the budget in order to fulfil the ILO’s mandate, that is, advancing social justice through decent work with a human-centered approach.
  4. The EU and its MS are committed to its adoption and implementation and therefore support the proposed Programme and Budget.

Thank you, Chair.
