EU Statement - ITU - SDGs, Climate and Gender

Chair, Dear Colleagues,

I have the honour of delivering this statement on behalf of the EU, its Member states and Switzerland.

The European Union (EU) and its Member States wish to state that they strongly support the full implementation of the ambitious, accelerated, just and transformative actions to reinvigorate the multilateral system, rebuild trust and implement the 2030 Agenda, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while leaving no one behind.

We reiterate our commitment to the Pact for the Future, which is a crucial step towards revitalising the United Nations, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including gender equality and climate action. The European Union stands ready to cooperate with all stakeholders to ensure its effective implementation, also in the ITU.

We remain committed to the previous Resolutions, such as last year’s Council Resolution 1429 on ITU role in facilitating ICTs’ contribution to sustainability and climate action and Resolution 70 on mainstreaming a gender perspective in ITU and promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women through information and communication technologies.

Thank you.
