The Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine from the perspective of the mandate of the ILO

GB.344/INS/19

post-vote intervention

Chair,

I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union and its Member States.

  1. We align with the cross-regional joint statement as delivered by Canada
  2. We are deeply heartened by the outcome of the vote on this resolution. It exemplifies the strong commitment of this house towards lasting peace and social justice and reassures our Ukrainian brothers and sisters that they are not alone in this battle.
  3. It also sends a strong message that we will not be cowed and we will not stop efforts to protect the shared and universal values of freedom, sovereignty and democracy.
  4. The EU and its Member States again take this opportunity to express their unwavering support for the tripartite constituents in Ukraine - workers, employers and its freely-elected government - at this most difficult time.
  5. Chair, amid such a dark chapter in history, today's adoption of this resolution reaffirms our confidence in the power of Tripartism, constructive dialogue and underscores our belief in the ILO as the institution destined to achieve social justice and peace.
  6. The adoption of the resolution today contributes towards the concerted and continued global effort to push for an immediate end to Russia's aggression against Ukraine and enables us to consistently work towards achieving lasting peace for all.

Thank you, Chair.
