ILO - 344th session of the Governing Body: EU Statement INS 3/2: Agenda of the International Labour Conference Arrangements for its 110th Session
Thank you, Chairperson.
I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union and its Member States.
The Candidate Countries, the Republic of North Macedonia[1] , Montenegro*, Serbia* and Albania* and the EFTA countries Iceland and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, as well as the Republic of Moldova and Georgia align themselves with this statement.
[We align ourselves with the IMEC statement.]
We would like to thank the Office for their efforts in engaging with all constituents over the past few months and for taking into consideration the concerns raised regarding this important event. We appreciate the wide-range of options presented by the Office which ensure that the 110th ILC can take place in the best possible circumstances while also facilitating effective discussions on the large number of important items on the Conference’s agenda this summer. We also wish to thank all interlocutors for the constructive discussions these past months.
The consensus reached during the informal consultations seems like the best possible outcome under the circumstances. Thus, we support this option which allows for the hosting of a two-week continuous session from 27 May to 11 June, at the Palais des Nations and ILO premises. We appreciate the opportunity for in-person participation that this option allows, subject to the maximum capacity of available meeting rooms as well as the provision of remote participation for all meetings, and the programme for the agenda which will operate within normal Geneva working hours,
We note with satisfaction that this option also allows for due flexibility to adjust plans, at no significant additional cost, should the pandemic situation deteriorate before the opening of the Conference.
We genuinely appreciate all of the efforts the Office has made over the past two years to ensure business continuity and facilitate robust engagement in both the Governing Body and the International Labour Conference, despite the most challenging of circumstances.
We are happy to support the Decision Point.
Thank you, Chairperson.
