EU statement
Thank you, Chair. I am speaking on behalf of the EU and its Member States.
The candidate countries Montenegro, Albania and Ukraine, the EFTA Norway, members of the European Economic Area, as well as the United Kingdom align themselves with this statement. align themselves with this statement.
-
We align with the IMEC statement.
-
We thank the Office for the background paper on the review of the modalities of recurrent discussions under the follow-up to the 2008 ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization, as amended in 2022.
-
We reaffirm the value and relevance of recurrent discussions aimed at understanding the diverse realities and needs of ILO Member States and identifying gaps with respect to the four interrelated strategic objectives of the Decent Work Agenda.
-
These discussions are essential for preserving the ILO’s ability to respond effectively to new trends and challenges, through standards-related action, technical cooperation, and technical and research capacity.
-
We want to recall that the Doha Political Declaration and the three-pronged approach were endorsed by the Governing Body in November 2025 as a follow-up to the World Social Summit and that this represents a strategic opportunity for alignment between specific commitments of direct relevance to the ILO’s mandate and recurrent discussions.
-
With these remarks, we agree with the decision point.
Thank you, Chair.
