EU Explanation of Vote – UN General Assembly 4th Committee: Questions relating to information: draft resolution A – Information in the service of humanity & draft resolution B – United Nations global communications policies and activities
Thank you, Chair.
I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the European Union and its Member States.
The European Union deeply regrets that, for the first time in 38 years, draft resolution A – information in the service of humanity – and draft resolution B - United Nations global communications policies and activities - could not be adopted by consensus, which on our view allows us to find common ground on issues that connect us all.
The tradition of consensus on item 53 – questions relating to information - has long reflected our collective commitment to uphold the importance of communication as a global public good, as well as our shared interest in ensuring that the United Nations can communicate effectively, credibly, and inclusively.
The European Union remains committed to constructive engagement in future discussions on these resolutions, with the hope that we can once again return to consensus next year.
Thank you, Chair.
