27 November 2019, New York – European Union introduction delivered by Finland on behalf of the EU and its Member States at the 74th Session of the United Nations Second Committee, 26th meeting to the EU amendment to delete PP 9 on Globalization and interdependence

Mr. Chair, 

 

I have the honour to take the floor on behalf of the EU and its Member States to introduce this amendment to the draft resolution. The EU and its Member States would like to call for the deletion of the current PP 9.

 

Throughout the negotiations the EU and its Member States, supported by several other delegations, have consistently voiced their concern with the use of the formulation "win-win cooperation". We cannot accept any reference to a concept that ignores internationally agreed principles of development cooperation and undermines the people-centred approach outlined in the 2030 Agenda.

 

As was outlined in the 2030 Agenda, the needs of partner countries should be placed at the heart of development cooperation policy, and as such we are not in a position to support a model of development cooperation which eschews the universal rules we have all agreed on.

We call on all Member States to support the proposed amendment.
