The program 'EU Youth Delegates' is part of the Youth Action Plan (2022 – 2027) adopted 4 October. The Youth Action Plan is based on a vision of young people as partners for the EU and aims to enhance youth participation in foreign policy, recognizing youth as right holders and essential actors to contribute to the Agenda 2030. Other initiatives include a Youth Sounding Board for International Partnerships, as well as youth advisory structures at EU delegations level.
The program ‘EU Youth Delegates’ is also launched on the occasion of the European Year of Youth, as a new innovative platform to reinforce youth participation in the EU’s external action. The programme will increase EU coordination and representation on youth issues and beyond at the UN, in line with the Lisbon Treaty. It will contribute to the implementation of the EU Council Conclusions on Youth in external action of 2020 by supporting intergenerational and multicultural dialogue and ensuring the consultation of youth in policy decisions. A network of alumni will be established to build linkages among youth delegates over time.
EU Talks is honoured to host pioneering EU Youth Delegates two EU Youth Delegates Lucija Karnelutti and Nadia Gullestrup Christensen.
While the goal of the United Nations is to improve the daily lives of citizens around the world, the reality is more complicated. The UN is a complex organisation with dozens of offices and thousands of staff. The EU Talks series aims to candidly discuss the UN’s work and how it delivers by engaging with diplomats and UN officials as well as experts, journalists and activists, creating a valuable space, especially for young people.
