EU Talks Episode no 9 - Digital and Gender Divide

This episode is with amazing interlocutors African Union Youth Envoy Chido Mpemba and UN Dept of Global Communications web portal “Africa Renewal” Managing Editor Zipporah Musau. EU Youth Delegates Lucija Karnelutti and Nadia Gullestrup Christensen are hosts. The episode premiered today on the EU Delegation YouTube channel.

In an expanding digital world, bridging the digital and gender divide is crucial in ensuring that women and girls are not left behind. Regional bodies such as the African Union and the European Union have worked collaboratively with specialized institutions to find long lasting solutions to the digital divide. With access to digital technology now mainstreamed and demonstrated as not being a luxury, policymakers have been actively seeking sustainable solutions. In this episode, hosts are talking with their guests about their experiences in the digital world in professional and personal life, desirable outcomes of the Commission of the Status of Women and hopes for the digital and gender equal future.

Zipporah Musau witnessed a transition in the digital world in her private and professional life: “I am a trained journalist. I worked in newspaper; and it was a print newspaper. And then we transitioned online.”

 

Chido Mpemba discusses the digital divide through the lens of Covid pandemic: “We do realise that during Covid era a lot of information was digital, but at the same time, not everyone had access to that information.”
