Meet the EU Youth Delegates to the UN for the 78th General Assembly Session

Following the success of last year’s pilot project, the EU has selected another two EU Youth Delegates to represent young Europeans at the United Nations.
As part of the EU Youth Delegate program, the two Youth Delegates will work to encourage young Europeans to participate in the UN’s work and increase the visibility of the EU at the UN. Given the challenges that disproportionately affect young people such as climate change and rising inequality, it is important that they have a strong voice to raise their concerns and find solutions. Youth engagement with these issues and the UN’s work will also be critical in ensuring action is taken.
Meet Giulia Tariello and Lukas Svana, the new EU Youth Delegates for the 78th UN General Assembly Session.

Giulia Tariello
Giulia Tariello (Italy) is an EU Youth Delegate for the UNGA 78th Session. Previously, she served as the Italian Youth Delegate to the United Nations, thanks to the Programme of the Italian Society for the International Organization (SIOI), where she focused on advancing the Sustainable Development Goal of quality education. During this role, she advocated for reforming education systems globally and ensuring equitable access to education. Through internships at an NGO and the Italian Consulate General in Argentina she further strengthened her resolve to work towards achieving a fairer education system and deepened her understanding of global challenges.
Giulia also holds the position of Secretary at MSOI Milan, the Student Movement for the International Organization, the local branch of the SIOI. As part of this youth movement, she is dedicated to educating young people about international relations and encouraging them to share their unique perspectives with their peers.
As an EU Youth Delegate, she will advocate for more significant actions to reduce inequalities and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Lukas Svana
Lukas Svana (Slovakia) is an EU Youth Delegate for the UNGA 78th Session. He is also a delegate of the Slovak Youth Council to the European Youth Forum. In addition, he has worked his way up to becoming the supervisory board chairman of the Youth Council of the Žilina Region in Slovakia and has trained hundreds of young leaders from school and municipality councils in Slovakia. As a facilitator of focus groups for the European Youth Dialogues, Lukas has moderated discussions with young people on sustainable development, opportunities and mobility. These roles have provided him with extensive experience in youth participation, rural youth and informal education.
During his mandate as EU Youth Delegate to the UN, Lukas will focus on eradicating poverty and reducing inequalities. Without the satisfaction of primary needs and education, the most vulnerable young people face generational poverty. He will also work on effective communication with the youth sector.
