What’s Next for International Support for the Sahel? Tune into EU Talks to find out.
The Sahel remains a region of strategic importance to the European Union, which renewed its Sahel Strategy in 2021, and has for many years been one of the strongest partners in terms of development, humanitarian and security assistance.
The coming months will see various discussions at international level that will be crucial for the future support to the Sahel.
This episode of EU Talks covers a panel discussion with Emanuela Del Re, European Union Special Representative for the Sahel and Ahunna Eziakonwa and UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Africa, and moderated by Karin Landgren, Executive Director of Security Council Report. The event excerpts are followed by a short interview with EU Special Representative Emanuela Del Re conducted by EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato.
Ms Del Re emphasized that European Union and Sahel have a longstanding relationship “We are very much connected and interdependent,” she said. When commenting on the most important aspect of international support, she underlined: “Certainly governance is the key for everything.”
While the goal of the United Nations is to improve the daily lives of citizens around the world, the reality is more complicated. The EU Talks series aims to candidly discuss the UN’s work and how it delivers by engaging with diplomats and UN officials as well as experts, journalists and activists, creating a valuable space, especially for young people.
