Ambassador Martin Selmayr with EFSA and FAO
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations in Rome (FAO), signed today a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), strengthening the long-standing partnership between these two important specialised agencies, notably on plant and animal health, pesticide risk assessment, sustainable agricultural practices, foresight, data and methodologies.
The MoU, signed by EFSA’s Executive Director, Nicolaus Kritz and by FAO’s Chief Economist, Maximo Torero Cullen, also covers key emerging fields such as novel foods, biotechnology, AI and the microbiome. The cooperation between EFSA and FAO is particularly important to support our further work on the Codex Alimentarius at FAO, the world’s common standards for safe food.
Ambassador Selmayr then welcomed at Villa Europa, the Executive Director of EFSA, Nicolaus Kriz and his team for an exchange of views.
