Ambassador Martin Selmayr meets the new WFP ED
Ambassador Martin Selmayr had a very good exchange with the new Executive Director of the World Food Programme, Luke Lindberg, who has now taken up the challenging mandate of saving lives and changing lives under the UN flag in Rome.
A very useful and constructive exchange took place at WFP on the need for humanitarian diplomacy to end wars and conflicts that cause immense suffering and hunger in the world, starting with Sudan. We agreed on the imperative that humanitarian workers must never be the target of attacks. And we spoke in detail about the current escalation in the Black Sea which is threatening food security in many countries.
Food must never be a weapon, neither in the Black Sea nor elsewhere. The European Union as one of the largest cash donors and most reliable partners of WFP looks forward to close cooperation with the new Executive Director.
