The EU and UNIDROIT met today in Rome.

The International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) with its seat in Villa Aldobrandini in Rome, is an independent intergovernmental organisation that studies, since 1926, needs and methods for modernising, harmonising and coordinating private and in particular commercial law between states and to formulate uniform law instruments, principles and rules to facilitate cross-border trade.

All 27 EU Member States are members of UNIDROIT, and the EU has observer status. Ambassador Selmayr had a very fruitful exchange with Secretary-General Professor Ignacio Tirado and Deputy Secretary-General Professor Anna Veneziano how the EU and UNIDROIT could deepen their cooperation, notably when it comes to insolvency law and a future 28th contract law regime.
