A new Strategic Plan 2026-2029 adopted today at the WFP Second Regular Session of the EB (Rome, 17–20 November 2025)

This was an important moment today for the fight against hunger and malnutrition in the world: The Executive Board of the UN’s WFP adopted this afternoon by consensus a new Strategic Plan 2026-2029 that will pave the way for further operational work in the field. The consensus found in Rome today - strongly facilitated by the tireless work of WFP’s committed Executive Board President Elissa Golberg - shows that when it comes to humanitarian aid, there continues to exist, among UN Members, a will to find common solutions on the basis of our UN principles, also in these geopolitically volatile times.

On behalf of the EU, its 27 Member States and its allies, Ambassador Martin Selmayr reiterated at this occasion the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals, the fight against climate change and for gender equality, and the need to protect the most vulnerable in crisis zones.

The EU will continue to work closely with WFP, its great WFP Chief Cindy McCain and Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau as well as WFP’s hard working staff to bridge the gap between the world as it is, and the world as we wish it to be: a world free from hunger.
