Zátopek is based on the screenplay by Alice Nellis and tells the story of the Czechoslovak long-distance runner, winner of three gold medals and nicknamed the 'Czech locomotive', at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. Sport, as well as fateful socio-political events, are reflected in the personality of Emil Zátopek. The iconic historical figure becomes a dramatic human character 'in colour.'
