The Ambassador of the European Union, Martin Selmayr meets the new Pope Leo XIV on the occasion of his first address to the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See on 20 May

With the choice of his name, the new Pope decided to walk in the footsteps of Leo XIII who was very active diplomatically and often successful in international conflict mediation. The wish is that Pope Leo XIV with his authority as global leader and his influential diplomatic network, helps the world to achieve an authentic, just and lasting peace in the many wars and conflicts in the world, notably to finally end Russia’s continuing brutal war of aggression against Ukraine.
