EU Heads of Missions meeting at Villa Europa
At the EU Heads of Missions meeting at Villa Europa in Rome today, Ambassador Martin Selmayr debriefed, together with the Ambassador of Ireland, our TeamEurope about the important reflections discussed during the Informal Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers (Gymnich) in Wicklow/Ireland on 1/2 September.
The European Union stands for effective, renewed and strengthened multilateralism - also at the UN in Rome. Global food security is currently seriously threatened by war and conflict which block or reduce the flow of food, fuel and fertilizer through the Strait of Hormuz, Bab-el-Mandeb and the Black Sea, increasing costs, affecting harvests and deepening hunger.
Following the special FAO Council on 28 April on the Strait of Hormuz, we discussed how we can best respond in Rome, together with our partners, to the recent escalation in the Black Sea and help avoiding further negative consequences for global food security. We also prepared the strategic files on the agenda of FAO, WFP and IFAD this autumn, from the FAO review to the bioeconomy, from new Country Strategic Plans to the meetings of the committees on fisheries and forestry.
