    Europe Day - Rome

Europe Day

Europe Day commemorates the signing of the Schuman Declaration on 9 May 1950. It is a moment to recall the values the EU stands for: peace, democracy, human rights and solidarity. Through our cooperation and unity in diversity we stand stronger together as European Union.
This year we witness one of the darkest moments in Europe’s modern history: the end of decades of peace on the European continent. It only underlines even more the vision of our founding fathers when launching the European project to promote peace on the European continent.

Here in Rome, the European Union Delegation marked the occasion of EUROPE DAY 2022 highlighting the importance of multilateral cooperation and a rules-based international order and the universal values of freedom, solidarity and human dignity. Ambassador Alexandra Valkenburg, Head of the EU Delegation in Rome, emphasised our solidarity with Ukraine, especially with millions of young Ukrainians who have been driven out of their homes, forced to seek refuge elsewhere.

This year is the European Year of the Youth. In collaboration with the EU Member States Heads of Missions to the UN Organizations in Rome and to the Holy See, our Delegation prepared a series of spots where young people had a chance to have their voices heard on their expectations for Europe.

EU Year of Youth - Message EU Delegation in Rome

As the EU Delegation and Member States Embassies accredited to the Holy See and the UN Organizations in Rome, we have also endeavoured to give youth a voice. Ambassador Alexandra Valkenburg, Head of the EU Delegation, talks to Carmela Mendrino.
