In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, in 2015, the United Nations General Assembly declared 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The European Union is committed to promoting gender equality in research and innovation. It is part of the Gender Equality Strategy for 2020-2025, which sets out the broader commitment to equality across all EU policies.
To mark the day, we would like you to meet Darina Štyriaková, a biotechnologist from Slovakia, founder and CEO of ecolive.
