Newly appointed WFP ED Luke J. Lindberg

This morning in Rome, the European Union gave its support to the proposal of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and FAO DG QU Dongyu to appoint Luke J. Lindberg as new Executive Director of the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP). 

His personality, his constructive approach and his explicit commitment to multilateralism, UN principles, sustainable development, international humanitarian law and UN reform as well as to WFP‘s dual mandate and WFP‘s Strategic Plan convinced us to endorse him today. 

The European Union has been the second largest donor and strong supporter of WFP over the years, and we look forward to working closely together with Mr Lindberg. In times of increasing humanitarian needs and decreasing public resources, strong partnerships, targeted humanitarian diplomacy and efficient cooperation across UN agencies is very much needed to help those most in need on our planet.
