Pope Leo XIV at WFP
Today, Pope Leo XIV made a historic visit to the UN World Food Programme (WFP) headquarters in Rome. The Ambassadors accredited to WFP were also present.
The Pope insisted that food, water, and healthcare cannot be subordinated to geopolitical interests. He called for nations to work together with renewed multilateralism and solidarity with the most vulnerable in the world. Pope Leo XIV also paid tribute to the humanitarian workers who lost their lives while serving the WFP in crisis hotspots.
Martin Selmayr, Ambassador of the European Union both to the UN in Rome and to the Holy See, was very glad to see that the Holy Father took the time to meet with WFP’s impressive staff and to thank them personally for their important work in the interest of humanity.
