Ambassador Martin Selmayr at the WFP EB meeting this week

At the UN’s World Food Programme in Rome, Team Europe today worked once again for consensus among Members in the interest of saving lives in the many crisis hotspots, in a world that is increasingly uncertain and polarised.

We marked the start of the fifth year of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked full-scale invasion against Ukraine and reiterated our unwavering solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

We also recalled the war in Sudan, which continues to trigger the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.

WFP and its brave staff, together with many local and international humanitarian organisations, do an impressive job under increasingly challenging circumstances.

As second largest donor and largest cash contributor, the EU is and will remain a reliable and predictable partner of WFP.
