Emerging leaders from across the UK get to know the EU from the inside

Between 22-26 June, a group of 20 young professionals from across the country had the opportunity to experience the inner workings of the EU as part of the second edition of the EU Programme for Emerging Leaders.

Organised by the EU Delegation to the United Kingdom in cooperation with the European Parliament Liaison Office in the UK, the group, which included representatives from government, parliament and civil society, spent an intensive week in Brussels for high-level meetings with policymakers, politicians, and others to discuss EU-UK relations and how the EU was adapting to a changing world.

Over the course of five days, participants met with senior officials from the European External Action Service (EEAS), the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Parliament, and the Cypriot Presidency of the Council. Additional sessions were held with think tank and business representatives and the UK Mission to the EU also received the group.

The programme was tailored to the group’s interests and beyond discussions on foreign and security policy, defence cooperation also included discussions on urban cooperation and the EU’s youth and sports policies.
