Exceptional European architecture on display at Kingston University

“We thrive in buildings that inspire us, and that bring people together to inspire each other. Buildings like Town House reinforce interaction and the need to come together, to expand our knowledge and understanding through cross-fertilisation. The same spirit underpins the EU’s New European Bauhaus initiative … which weaves a cultural dimension into the EU’s climate policies, the European Green Deal” – EU Ambassador to the UK Pedro Serrano remarked during the opening of the exhibition.
Hosted in Kingston University’s multi award-winning Town House, the exhibition presents the nominated, shortlisted and awarded projects for the EU Mies Awards and has previously toured Cologne, Belgrade, Brussels and Vienna. The EU Mies app is also available to explore the nominations and complement the viewing experience.
The EU Mies van der Rohe Award is the highest accolade in European architecture. It highlights the contribution of quality architecture to sustainable development and citizens' well-being, and commends excellence and innovation in the field of architecture.
Kingston University’s Town House is the current Winner of the 2022 EU Mies Prize for Contemporary Architecture, the first university building to have ever won this prestigious prize. Town House received the award for its "remarkable environmental quality that creates an excellent atmosphere for studying, dancing, gathering and being together". The University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Steven Spier said that ‘Town House was conceived as part of a bold vision to create an inspirational new learning space’ and that it served as a ‘demonstration of the power and impact of great architecture’.
The exhibition of the EU Mies van Der Rohe Award for Contemporary Architecture is open in Town House at Kingston University’s Penrhyn Road campus, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 2EE, until 5 March.
