Ipswich and Sunderland get EU vouchers for free public WiFi

Municipalities can apply for €15,000 vouchers for the installation of WiFi public networks. Upon completion the WiFi4EU-funded networks need to be free of charge, free of advertising and free of personal data harvesting. Funding is only provided to networks that do not duplicate existing free private or public offers with a similar quality in the same public space. The costs for maintaining the networks will be covered by the municipalities. UK applicants and beneficiaries remain eligible to receive EU funds for the entire duration of grants implementing the EU's 2014-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), including after the end of the transition period.
This fourth call of WiFi for EU generated huge interest – three thousand applicationa were filed within five seconds of opening.
