On Wednesday 15th June, the President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde visited the EU Delegation to the UK, where she inaugurated the ECB’s Representation Office in London, headed by Guy-Charles Mahric. President Lagarde held a reception with Financial Attaches from other Embassies, as well as London-based officials from other Central Banks and financial institutions. In her speech, the President of the ECB said: “Our Representation Office in London is the mouth, ear, brain and heart of the ECB in the UK. The UK remains a key partner in the many battles that we are currently facing. The huge uncertainty we find ourselves in indicates that we must be more cohesive, and I’m glad that we can offer support on the ground”. The EU’s Deputy Ambassador to the UK, Nicole Mannion, welcomed President Lagarde and said in her introduction: “We are delighted to host the European Central Bank in Europe House. The ECB has helped weather a number of crises, including the Eurozone debt crisis, Covid and the war in Ukraine. Having the ECB’s Representation Office is important for our British interlocutors and for the joint work we carry out”.
