Second meeting of the European Affairs Societies Network

The second ever meeting of the European Affairs Societies Network took place on March 6 at the University of Westminster. It was co-organized by the EU Delegation, the University of Westminster and the student-led Westminster Institute, with the support of the European Parliament Liaison Office (EPLO).

In the beautiful surrounds of the University of Westminster's Fyvie Hall in the Regent's Campus, the Network meeting was opened by Professor Dibyesh Anand, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Westminster and Nicole Mannion, Deputy EU Ambassador.  Students had the opportunity to discuss in geographical groups and meet in a plenary. The opening session  was co-chaired by the EU Delegation and Anastasia Lydaki, President of the University of Westminster European Affairs Society.

The Network was provided with practical information on the forthcoming European Elections by the European Parliament Liaison office in London and the EU Delegation invited participants to organize events around Europe Day (May 9) and the European Youth Week (April 12-19) .

Following an update from each of the Network members present, the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) informed the room, via a virtual presentation, about career opportunities at EU institutions.

The day continued with a panel discussion on Climate change in a global electoral year open to the Network members and all the University of Westminster students. The panel was made of EU Delegation Staff, Westminster Academics and young leaders.



A highlight of the day was welcoming two new European Affairs Societies recently established at Oxford and Birmingham Universities joined the Network, which now brings the number of societies who make up the network to twenty.

Those Network Members now are: Anglia Ruskin University, Bath, Birmingham, Brighton, Cambridge, Cardiff, City University of London, Durham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, King's College London, Leeds, LSE, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford, UCL (two societies), Warwick and Westminster.



The EU Ambassador, Pedro Serrano, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Westminster, Professor Peter Bonfield, closed the Network meeting.

The European Affairs Societies Network intends to meet three times per academic year, each time at a different UK university.
