The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
The EU Delegation to the United States of America in Washington, DC works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the U.S. government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer the post of Outreach Assistant (LA Group II - P&I Assistant) in the Ambassador's office, also known as the Head of Delegation section. You are a part of a small team that focuses on the activities and outreach of the Ambassador and her Deputy. These include the preparation and planning of meetings with policymakers at federal and local level, planning and staging events where the Ambassador is host or takes an active role, speech and report writing and set-up the necessary follow-up mechanisms.
The Ambassador's team consists of 11 people and there are occasional atypical working hours. You will be working under the supervision of the Senior Advisor who is in charge of the Ambassador's overall outreach strategy. Under this job function, the successful candidate will be responsible to the Head of Delegation for or contribute to the following tasks and duties:
· Event planning for Ambassador's U.S. State and DC outreach events in the nation's capital – with U.S. States and with Administration, Congressional, academic, cultural, diplomatic, and other DC interlocutors;
· Planning aspects of monthly State visits for the Ambassador and Deputy;
· Drafting remarks, reports and correspondence;
· Coordination of briefings for the Ambassador and Deputy;
· Implementation of ad hoc projects;
· Coordination with EU Delegation sections on high-level visits where the Ambassador is involved;
· Temporarily replacing other colleagues in the team during their absences.

· The salary range is not negotiable but determined by proof of relevant and verified employment experience, starting from $87K (1 years’ experience), $90K (3 years’ experience), $95K (6 years’ experience) etc.

This is a 2 Year Contract subject to renewal. There may be 2 renewals up to a maximum of 7 years of successive fixed-term contracts. An indefinite contract may be offered after 7 years.
The anticipated start date is 1 April/1 May 2026.
Eligibility requirements
- Higher education in a relevant field such as political science, economics or international relations a major advantage; minimum of secondary school diploma or equivalent;
- 4 years of professional experience in the fields mentioned above and a strong track record in diplomatic/think-tank/corporate event management and audience engagement.

The process
After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Panel set up for this purpose. The Selection Panel will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered the most suitable for the post based on a preliminary assessment of the information provided in the cover letter and resume.
The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase, which will include an interview and practical test. During this phase, the Selection Panel will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.
