9th European Film Festival

After two years of virtual film festivals, the Delegation organised the 9th edition of its European Film Festival in Montevideo. The Festival was held from 19 to 25 May at Movie Cinemas Punta Carretas, one of the city’s top cinema complexes, and consisted of 16 films from 19 Member States (including a Ukrainian co-production), all of which had won awards at recent European film festivals.
The Festival was launched on 18 May with an avant premiere to which national culture authorities, all the Delegation’s cultural contacts, the diplomatic corps and the media were invited.
The HoD and the Greek Ambassador (as the opening film was Greek co-production A window to the sea) spoke at the event, which received good media coverage.
Just under 1000 spectators attended the Festival throughout the week – roughly half pre-pandemic attendance numbers – but the cinema informed the Delegation that these numbers were the best they had had post-pandemic until then.
