Ambassador König participated in the 1st Integration and Development Forum

EU Ambassador Karl-Otto König participated today in the panel on International Trade and Integration at the 1st Integration and Development Forum organized by Latinfinance and Fonplata at the Radisson Victoria Plaza Hotel.

Joining him were Ernesto Talvi, Uruguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alejandro de la Peña Navarrete, Secretary General of ALADI, Martín Rama, World Bank Chief Economist for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Michel Arslanian Neto, Director of the Brazilian Mercosur and Regional Integration Department. The panel was moderated by Kevin Gray, LatinFinance Deputy Editor.

With the EU-Mercosur Association Agreement in sight, the countries of the region continue working to expand the scale of their global and intra-regional trade. In view of a complex commercial scenario in the world, the panel analyzed future integration rules in the region, as well as opportunities and challenges of new trade blocks such as the Pacific Alliance.

"The Agreement between the European Union and Mercosur will be an event of epic proportions", stated Foreign Minister Talvi in his speech.

"This treaty is a clear signal to the world of where we want to go as strategic partners... It will be a game-changer", added Ambassador König.
