Europe Day 2026 celebration in Uruguay

An occasion to recall the origins of the EU and toast to its success

 

Europe Day was celebrated in Uruguay with a reception held at the Mercosur Building - a nod to the entry into force of the EU-Mercosur agreement on May 1st.

As is the custom, the EU Delegation invited its long list of contacts, including national and local authorities, the diplomatic corps, businessmen, academics and representatives of all walks of civil society. Six Cabinet Ministers were among those in attendance, together with Senators, Deputies, Governors and a number of other policy makers.

The formal part of the event began with a school choir singing the Uruguayan and EU anthems.

This was followed by words from EU Ambassador Mavromichalis and Uruguayan Foreign Minister Lubetkin, both of whom ended up toasting EU-Uruguay relations.

The reception was co-sponsored by a number of European companies, and EU Member State embassies contributed edible delicacies to the cocktail.
