European Union's Human Rights Award 2022

In a ceremony held on December 7 at the Delegation of the European Union to Uruguay, the NGO Mujer y Salud en Uruguay  (MYSU), which works to promote and defend sexual and reproductive health and rights from a gender perspective, was announced as the winning organisation of the 2022 European Union Human Rights Award.

The Ambassador of the European Union, Paolo Berizzi, was in charge of announcing the winning NGO, accompanied by the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Pablo Ruiz-Hiebra. Uruguayan authorities, the diplomatic corps of the Member States of the European Union and representatives of the NGOs candidates for the Award and Uruguayan civil society also participated in the event.

The choice of the winning organization was difficult, in view of which the jury decided to award a special mention to the NGO Fundación Logros - Baltasar Brum, which contributes to the sustainable social development of the community.

The purpose of the European Union Human Rights Award in Uruguay is to recognise, encourage and give greater visibility to the activities or projects carried out by a Non-Governmental Organisation focused on disseminating, promoting, defending and effectively protecting Human Rights in Uruguay, with a good story to tell, that can be replicated. The 2022 Edition sought in particular to recognise the initiative and drive of organisations that through their action promote the participation and human rights of young people.
