IV European Investment Forum

On October 24th and 25th, the IV European Investment Forum was held, on the topic of transforming the future through renewable energies.

It was organized jointly by the European Union Delegation to Uruguay, INSPYRAME UE, the Chamber of Commerce and Services of Uruguay, the Eurocamara Uruguay, Uruguay XXI and Eurochambres.

The first day of the Forum took place at the Uruguay Golf Club.

The event was opened by the president of the Eurochamber Mario Amelotti, the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Services of Uruguay Julio Cesar Lestido, the Vice Director of Uruguay XXI Inés Bonicelli, the Ambassador of the European Union Paolo Berizzi, the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and the Environment Minister Adrián Peña.

In his speech, Ambassador Berizzi highlighted the desire of the European Union to lead the energy transformation worldwide and to encourage other partners, such as Uruguay, to work alongside the EU.

The EU Delagation Head of Trade and Economy, Damian Kamiński moderated the first panel regarding State energy transition policies. The undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining Walter Verri, the director of the Energy Platform Task Force Cristina Lobillo Borrero and the Head of the Latin America and Caribbean division of the European Investment Bank Kristin Lang were present at this panel.

Marcelo Mula, president of the Uruguayan Association of Renewable Energies, moderated the second panel on the subject of European investment in renewable energies in Uruguay and its future prospects. The panellists were the director of Montelecnor Javier González, the director of International Business of ENERTRAG Aram Sander, the general manager of Air Liquide Lucas Rodríguez and the sustainability and communications manager of Montes del Plata Carolina Moreira.

For the clousure, we were pleased to have the presence of the High Representative and Vice President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, and the Foreign Minister, Francisco Bustillo.

In his speech, High Representative Borrell referred to Uruguay as a synonymous with trust and an example of the practice of the Rule of Law. He characterized the country as a symbol of democracy and a builder of values.

The second day of the Forum took place in virtual format, were companies from Uruguay and the European Union participated.
