Talking with Europe: the EU-Mercosur Agreement
Just hours before the interim trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur came into effect on May 1st, the Magnolio Sala in Montevideo became a key meeting point for businesspeople, authorities and European leaders in international trade on April 29 to assess the scope of the new link between the two regions.

The opening ceremony was led by Honorary Ambassador Petros Mavromichalis, along with the President of the Eurochamber of Uruguay, Andrés Burghi. Ambassador Mavromichalis described the agreement as a unique economic opportunity, but also as a strategic response to broader global challenges, such as the rise of protectionism and the fragmentation of the international trading system.

Economy & Finance Minister Gabriel Oddone then highlighted the strategic value of the agreement for the country's international integration and competitiveness.

The event concluded with a panel moderated by EU head of trade in Uruguay Vanessa Mock, where representatives from strategic sectors analyzed export opportunities, logistical challenges, and the agreement's potential to attract new investments and boost mutual trade.
