Uruguay-EU Forum 2026
Organised jointly by Delegation Uruguay and Fundación EuroAmérica, the Uruguay-EU Forum brought together more than 250 high-level participants, including Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi, members of his Cabinet, Senators, Deputies, representatives from all major political parties and CEOs from leading European companies, as well as representatives of the Member States and EU institutions.

Enrique Iglesias and Ramón Jáuregui from Fundacion EuroAmerica, Pelayo Castro from the EEAS, Olivier Luyckx from DG INTPA, and senior EC officials and MEPs reinforced the high-level political commitment of both regions.

The central theme of the Forum was the implementation of the EU-Mercosur iTA. Throughout the day, speakers highlighted the agreement as a strategic response to a changing geopolitical landscape, a catalyst for investment and competitiveness, and a platform to deepen the longstanding political, economic and cultural ties between Uruguay, Mercosur and the European Union.

President Orsi noted that the Atlantic relationship is regaining strategic importance and that Mercosur now occupies a central role in relations between Europe and Latin America. Emphasising Uruguay’s European heritage and outward-looking tradition, he reaffirmed Uruguay’s commitment to serving as a bridge between regions.
