EU Statement at the 68th Session of the UN COPUOS on Other matters, 30 June 2025
Chair,
I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union and its Member States. Albania and Ukraine also aligns themselves with this statement.
Chair,
The EU recalls that COPUOS serves as a unique multilateral platform for promoting international cooperation in outer space.
Its membership has continued to grow, reflecting the increasing importance of outer space and space technologies for our societies.
Malta has demonstrated its keen interest to participate in the work of COPUOS and is already actively involved in space related activities at the European level.
The EU and its Member States therefore strongly support Malta's membership application and look forward to Malta joining COPUOS expeditiously.
We also welcome the membership applications from Ivory Coast, Gambia, Honduras, Maldives, and Zimbabwe and look forward to their swift adoption.
Additionally, under this agenda item, we would like to inform that on 25 June 2025, the European Commission adopted a new legislative proposal for an EU Space Act, for further consideration of the European Parliament and EU Member States in the Council of the EU.
Thank you for your attention.
