EU Statement at IAEA Board of Governors on the appointment of the Director General (6-10 March 2023)

I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union. The following countries align themselves with this statement: Türkiye§, North Macedonia*, Montenegro*, Serbia*, Albania*, Ukraine*, the Republic of Moldova*, Bosnia and Herzegovina*, Georgia, Iceland+, Liechtenstein+, Norway+, Armenia and San Marino.
We warmly congratulate Director General Grossi on his re-appointment. This early agreement demonstrates the strong trust and support of the IAEA Board of Governors for the work of the Director General, and ensures continuity during these challenging times.
We very much look forward to continuing our excellent cooperation with Director General Grossi and reiterate our full confidence in his abilities to lead the Agency in the coming four years. Director General Grossi can be assured of our steadfast support.
We take this opportunity to reaffirm our continued strong commitment to the important work of the IAEA across the spectrum of its mandate.
Finally, we also thank you, Chair, for leading the consultations on the appointment of the Director General in an efficient and transparent manner.
