3rd EU–Vietnam PCA Sub-Committee on Good Governance, Rule of Law, Human Rights

Yesterday at the Ministry of Justice, the third EU–Vietnam Sub-Committee on Good Governance, Rule of Law, Human Rights was organised.

The Vice Minister of Justice Nguyen Khanh Ngoc and H.E. Giorgio Aliberti, European Union (EU) Ambassador to Viet Nam, delivered speeches at the opening session to highlight Vietnam and EU cooperation relation. The meeting was then co-chaired by Mr. Nguyen Huu Huyen, Director General of the International Cooperation Department and Mr. Mario Ronconi, Head of Unit of South Asia – South East Asia European Commission.

The EU and Vietnam framed their discussion around the importance of gender equality, the need to strengthen access to justice, cooperation towards reinforced rule of law and strengthened governance as well as on human rights and the role of non-state actors in achieving inclusive and sustainable development, and to promote transparency and accountability.

Both parties reiterated that cooperation in rule of law, human rights and good governance should align with overall strategic plans including the upcoming Vietnamese Rule of law strategy and Vietnam’s commitment on the implementation of International Human Rights Conventions.
