Project 90 “Export control programme for Dual-use Goods – Southeast Asia” - Kick-off meeting
On July 21, a Kick-off meeting was jointly organised by VARANS (Ministry of Science of Technology), Standing office 81 and the EU “Partner-to-Partner” programme (P2P) on export control of dual-use goods, Project 90 of the European Union (EU) Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (CoE) Initiative. This was the first meeting on the site since the beginning of the pandemic. The purpose of the meeting was to review the past cooperation between Vietnam and the EU P2P program to present the current situation in the field of control of strategic goods from the perspective of Vietnam, the EU and the international environment, and to discuss a draft roadmap for the period 2022-2024.
The Kick-off Meeting was opened by Mr. Dao The Huu, Head of Center 81, Standing Office 81, Ms. Bui Thi Thuy Anh, Director of the International Cooperation Division, VARANS and Dr. Sylvain Paile-Calvo, Technical Director, EU “Partner-to-Partner” programme (P2P) on export control of dual-use goods, Project 90 whose common point was the necessity of cooperation in ensuring global security in preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Presentations and discussions took place in an open and positive atmosphere, which enabled both sides to gain a better insight into the current situation and thus an excellent basis for continued cooperation.
At the end of the event, it was agreed that the representatives of Viet Nam will also carry out internal coordination regarding priorities and necessary activities as well as inform the authorities from Project 90 about the results of the coordination.
