Europe Day 2026 Celebrated in Geneva
The European Union Missions to the WTO and the United Nations in Geneva celebrated Europe Day on 8 May together with partners, colleagues and friends from across the international community at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices. Bringing together representatives from the WTO, the UN system, diplomatic missions and international organisations, the celebration highlighted the European Union’s continued commitment to peace, solidarity and effective multilateral cooperation at a time of growing global uncertainty.
In her remarks, EU Ambassador to the WTO Maria Martin-Prat underlined the importance of preserving and renewing the multilateral system: “The European Union continues to believe that open, rules-based trade, anchored in a strong multilateral system, remains — however imperfect — the best way to promote fairness, stability and shared prosperity.” The Ambassador also stressed that WTO reform remains essential to ensuring that trade continues to support economic development, growth and poverty reduction worldwide.
The evening also celebrated Europe’s diversity and unity through the participation of EU Member States, which showcased their rich culinary traditions and hospitality. Guests had the opportunity to discover a wide range of European specialities, reflecting the cultural diversity that lies at the heart of the European project.
The European Union warmly thanks all guests and partners who joined this year’s celebration and contributed to making Europe Day 2026 in Geneva a memorable occasion.
