Bringing Yemen closer to people: Launch of EU campaign #TalkAboutYemen
The EU launched on 17 November the campaign “We need to talk about Yemen” to raise awareness about the situation in Yemen. The digital campaign includes short movies, a Yemeni art online exhibition and social media activities. The campaign was launched in a virtual event by EU Ambassador to Yemen Hans Grundberg. The full video of the event is available here: Virtual launch event of "Phantoms, Ruins and Reflections: Contemporary Art from Yemen"
On the occasion of the campaign, EU High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell stated: “For far too long we did not talk enough about the severe crisis in Yemen. We have to address this forgotten conflict and talk about it. We want to talk about Yemen, and more importantly – listen to what Yemenis have to tell us.”
During the online launch event, EEAS Secretary-General Helga Schmid reiterated the European Union willingness to stand by the Yemenis: “We have not only been helping Yemenis with their immediate needs and daily life challenges, but we support them also to build up their future.”
The EU Ambassador to Yemen Hans Grundberg shared memories of his personal experiences while visiting Yemen: “During my visits, I have witnessed a strong and resilient country that is ready to turn over this tragic page of its history once and for all.”
A collection of paintings, films and photos by Yemeni artists Hakim al-Akel, Alia Ali, Ziryab Al-Ghabri, Sarah al-Aulaqi and Obaid Salem are displayed online.
