EU ambassadors conclude visit to Aden

 

EU Ambassador to Yemen Gabriel Munuera Viñals,  Ambassador of Finland Anu-Eerika Viljanen, Ambassador of France Jean-Marie Safa, Ambassador of Germany Hubert Jäger and Ambassador  of the Netherlands Jeannette Seppen concluded today a joint visit to Aden.

 The Ambassadors reiterated EU support to President Rashad al-Alimi, the Presidential Leadership Council and PLC unity. Discussion focused on recent developments, the Ambassadors commending President's al-Alimi’s commitment to peace and constructive engagement with ongoing peace efforts. . 

 The Ambassadors also met Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalek Saeed, Minister of Planning & International Cooperation Waed Badhib, Minister of Finance Salem bin Bureik, Governor of the CBY Ahmed Ghaleb al-Maabaqi and Minister of Social Affairs Mohammed al-Zaouri.

 They commended the government’s efforts to stabilise the economy and encouraged it to continue implementing reforms and improve service delivery. They emphasised the need for unity of purpose under the extremely challenging circumstances. The ambassadors underscored the importance of ensuring a conducive operating environment for humanitarian and development actors helping Yemenis.

 The EU diplomats had also useful exchanges with civil society representatives and reiterated EU commitment to promoting a vibrant civil society in Yemen and to continue supporting efforts towards women empowerment and gender parity in government.

 The EU Heads of Mission reiterated the European Union’s unflinching support for the work of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, reiterating the call for constructive engagement with his efforts to reach an inclusive political settlement.
