EU Ambassadors conclude visit to Aden

EU Ambassador Gabriel Munuera Viñals, the Netherlands Ambassador Jeannette Seppen, French Ambassador Catherine Corm-Kammoun and German Chargée d'affaires a.i. Janina Kopfmüller concluded today a visit to Aden. 

The Ambassadors met the Chairman of the PLC, President Rashid Al Alimi, PM Salem bin Breik, Vice FM Mustafa Noman, Vice-Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights Mohammed Basardah, Deputy Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights Fahmi Noman, Governor of the CBY Ahmed Ghaleb al-Maabaqi Speaker of the Parliament Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani and Chairman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission (CRC) Mohammed al-Ghaithi. 

In their discussions, the Ambassadors reaffirmed the EU’s support for the PLC and the Government, underscoring the importance of unity and continued reforms. They reiterated support for UN-led peace efforts and encouraged continued constructive engagement with the UNSE. The Ambassadors conveyed support to CBY’s crucial work in stabilising the currency and for economic recovery. They stressed the unique role of the parliament in legislation and oversight and of the CRC in facilitating political dialogue. The delegation stressed the need for a conducive environment for humanitarian and development operations, and highlighted the importance of safeguarding civic space. 

The delegation met with civil society, visited the Creative Hub Aden and the Studio of Women Voices Without Borders. They reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting a vibrant civil society in Yemen, culture and creativity and promoting women’s empowerment and human rights, including children rights.
