Statement on Approval of the 2022 Yemeni Budget

The Delegation of the European Union welcomes the adoption of the 2022 Yemeni budget by the Parliament on 21 April. This is a major step in line with other recent positive developments in the economic field.

We welcome recent steps taken by the Central Bank and encourage the Presidential Leadership Council and the Government of Yemen to prioritise economic and financial reforms and service-delivery to the Yemeni people. Sound, credible and inclusive reforms and policies coupled with improved transparency are essential to improve the confidence of Yemenis and the international community.

It is important to ensure regular payment of salaries for civil servants and the continuity of delivery of basic services as well as strengthening state institutions. We will continue to engage with all parties to promote the unity and cooperation among economic institutions across the country.
