GREEN Tech4CE Project drives Sustainable Economic Transformation in Zambia

Lusaka, Zambia – 1 December 2025 -The GREEN Tech4CE Project, funded by the European Union’s Global Gateway, has today formalised contracts with selected companies under Calls for proposals II, III, and IV. These agreements will fund business solutions that leverage innovation and new technologies to strengthen local value chains, enhance industrial competitiveness, and promote the sustainable use of natural resources.

Under the newly signed contracts:

  • Ten enterprises have been awarded grants totalling EUR 3,447,645 to support circular business models across mining services, green workshops, recycling systems, waste-to-energy initiatives, waste management, and e-mobility. These investments aim to advance innovation in processing, technology adoption, and value addition, contributing to more resilient and competitive value chains.
  • Six Business Development Service Providers will receive EUR 843,428 to deliver incubation, acceleration, and technical assistance to 805 startups, micro and small enterprises. Their support will focus on strengthening enterprise management, improving environmental performance, and increasing investment readiness.
  • Two Financial Service Providers will be contracted for EUR 400,000 to design tailored financial products, including green leasing, to expand access to capital for MSMEs and artisanal and small-scale mining operators engaged in sustainable business practices.

In parallel, the project launched a new Lobito Corridor Call on 12 November, targeting medium-sized enterprises with strong potential in value addition, recycling, and technological innovation. Programme Achievements

The two Copperbelt-based enterprises selected through the first call have completed contracting process and started operations with a combined EUR 1 million in matching grants.

About the project: 

GREEN Tech4CE supporting Zambia’s transition to a green, circular economy by empowering local enterprises, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable industrial practices. The project is implemented by a consortium led by Self Help Africa, together with Tandem Circular Consulting, Prospero Ltd, and Imani Development International Ltd.

The programme is providing financial support to enterprises, business development service providers and financial service providers through calls for applications. The programme targets support to over 800 MSMEs and startups, aims to catalyse EUR 20 million in new investment, and contributes to job creation and the meaningful participation of women and youth entrepreneurs.
