Team Europe and Zambia discuss reforms and opportunities for investment
Lusaka, Zambia – February 26th, 2026 – The European Union and the Government of the Republic of Zambia have held the 2026 EU-Zambia Partnership Dialogue. The dialogue was co-chaired by Ms. Karolina Stasiak, EU Ambassador to Zambia and COMESA, and Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Heads of Mission of the European Union, Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Sweden, as well as non-resident Deputy Heads of Mission of Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands took part in the dialogue. The Partnership Dialogue is a yearly formal high-level engagement through which the European Union and Zambia discuss the strategic priorities of their partnership.
“In the rapidly evolving global context, our partnership based on trust, predictability and shared principles is more important than ever. We focus on people-centred partnership that creates jobs, expands economic opportunities and brings real change for the people”, said Ambassador Stasiak.
The Partnership Dialogue covered a broad range of issues. The partners discussed global challenges and regional developments, as well as commitment to a strong multilateral system and its reform. The EU appreciated Zambia’s principled and consistent engagement in multilateral fora. Discussion on democracy and governance reforms focused on issues of transparency, accountability, political participation and preparations of the upcoming elections. The European Union welcomed the invitation to deploy an EU Election Observation Mission.
Beyond governance, the European Union reiterated its commitment to supporting Zambia’s transition towards a diversified, resilient, and greener economy. Through the Global Gateway, Team Europe is mobilising investment in infrastructure, skills development, sustainable value chains, and private sector growth, while promoting high environmental, social, and governance standards. Learning the lessons from last year’s mining accidents, parties discussed the importance of mainstreaming environmental protection and sustainable resource management, as well as public benefits and economic opportunities of green transition.
With respect to private sector engagement and critical raw materials partnership, discussion focused on fostering a predictable and transparent business environment, supported by effective regulatory frameworks and strong oversight mechanisms. The EU will continue supporting the development of the Lobito Corridor as a driver of economic growth and a transformative regional initiative to advance regional connectivity and trade facilitation through Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa and the African Continental Free Trade Area.
