Zambia: President of the European Council, Charles Michel, at the African Union Summit

In his historic address to the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit, President Charles Michel said, “The EU does not stand idly by in the face of global food insecurity. We mobilise emergency humanitarian aid for vulnerable populations, support local food production and engage in global initiatives.” He reiterated EU’s support towards prosperity and economic development in Africa through the Global Gateway – 150 billion EUR investment. In the margins of the AU Summit, President Michel also had bilateral meetings with the President of Libya, Mohamed al-Menfi, and the AUC Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat.
During his visit to Zambia, President Michel exchanged views with the Zambian President, Hakainde Hichilema, on the EU’s commitment to support Zambia’s reform agenda and to attract investments as well as fighting climate change and building Zambia’s agricultural and health resilience. He also visited an EU-funded Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) and its state of the art National Medicines Quality Control Laboratory, and commended the Government on its good use of resources in medicine regulations. He further reassured EU’s continuous support to Zambia’s health sector with cooperation opportunities in pharmaceutical industry and health supply chain.
