Message from the Ambassador
Welcome to our webpage and thank you for your interest in our work and our relations with the country.
This Delegation is committed to accompany and support the country in the following areas:
- Democracy: Democracy, the rule of law and human rights must remain firm as a basis for our cooperation. At the bilateral level, the authorities of Ecuador and the EU will continue to hold once a year our High Level Political Dialogue and the Human Rights Dialogue to strengthen and deepen our relations and develop a political and cooperation agenda.
- Team Europe to fight COVID-19: We coordinate efforts with the Ministry of Health and PAHO/WHO; we maintain our commitment with Member States to support the country with the "Team Europe" on health issues and sustainable economic recovery. At the international level, the EU participates in the COVAX global mechanism for equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.
- New cooperation programming 2021-2027: We will drive "green" recovery through sustainable and inclusive trade, with projects that protect biodiversity and implement circular economy practices. We have an effective tool such as the Trade Agreement that facilitates the evolution of our trade relations towards the new guidelines included in the "European Green Pact" and in the "Farm to Fork" strategy. That is why trade facilitation will remain key in our cooperation, especially for access to new markets.
Charles-Michel Geurts, Ambassador of the European Union to Ecuador.
