France #UnitedInDistance: Helping victims of domestic violence

07.04.2020

A French association works closely with the police and social workers to organise express removals and find alternative housing for victims of domestic violence, as cases have experienced a dramatic increase under the lockdown

Lockdown measures are supposed to protect us and the most vulnerable. Unfortunately, the cage where we are locked in is not always a golden one. This is the case for victims of domestic violence, who find themselves trapped with their abusers, isolated from the people and the resources that could help them.

Since the beginning of the lockdown, all countries have witnessed a dramatic increase in domestic violence cases. As domestic violence explodes, and people are locked in, the association L’Atelier Remuménage in the French city of Bordeaux and the department of Gironde, has taken the initiative to help the victims find a way out by organising express removals.

The association works closely with the French police and social workers who might be aware of difficult situations and help finding alternative housing for the victims.

Nevertheless, the solidarity actions of the L’Atelier Remuménage do not stop here: the association, whose main activity is transporting goods for private and professionals in a socially responsible and environmental-friendly way, also takes care of delivering groceries and other necessity goods to people with reduced mobility.

Merci  L’Atelier Remuménage, we are #UnitedInDistance
